The Future Is Electric!
Mary with Richard Ball, Kate Reynolds, Ian Allder and Ali Yarr from Zenobe Energy
As the Prime Minister returns from discussing the threat of climate change at a UN conference in Azerbaijan, Mary has been looking at ways we can reduce carbon emissions here in Coventry.
Alongside the team at National Express Coventry, Mary met with Richard Ball, Kate Reynolds, Ian Allder and Ali Yarr from Zenobe Energy at the Coventry all electric depot.
Coventry now has a beautiful, all-electric bus fleet, made by Alexander Dennis in Scotland, which has made huge changes to clean up the air in our city.
With solar panels on the roof, second-life EV batteries supporting the site, clean power procured to charge the buses and 140 silent EVs constantly on the move, the depot is a real vision of what’s possible when integrating clean power and transport.
The depot has a significant impact on air quality and CO2 emissions, and we discussed the practicalities of delivering electrification at this scale, the unique opportunity for Coventry as an all-electric city, and the importance of phasing the transition to bring people and operations up to speed.
It’s a success story we’re proud to see in Coventry, which has such a heritage of transport history, and something that can be replicated up and down the country.
