Tackling Violence Against Women
Mary meets with the CRASAC team: Mary Hawkins, Jenni Musket, Natalie Thompson and Rachel Hind.
At least 1 in 12 women will be a victim of Violence Against Women and Girls every year, and in Coventry alone, roughly 45,650 people have experienced sexual abuse as an adult. There has also been a 37% increase in the number of reported offenses to the West Midlands Police.
These are appalling statistics, but they still cannot reflect the trauma that many women are left to live with every day as a result of these crimes. We can and must do more to protect women and girls in our communities from violence at the hands of men.
The Coventry Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre (CRASAC) is the only specialist service in Coventry which provides support for adults and children who have been impacted directly or indirectly by sexual violence or abuse at any time in their lives, including online abuse and exploitation.
Mary was honoured to meet with the amazing women who run CRASAC, to discuss their work in Coventry and how they seek justice and support for their victims, as she works to tackle this issue.
