Mary Meets Foxford School Council Leaders for Parliament Week

On Friday 22nd November, MP for Coventry East, Mary Creagh, visited Foxford Community School to award successfully elected pupils with certificates following their election to the school council.
The elections were held to coincide with UK Parliament Week, a national, annual event held to explain the role of Parliament; what it is and what it does. The secondary school pupils chose two student council representatives from each year group, between years seven and eleven. Mary presented certificates to the pupils who were voted in by their peers, hosted a Q and A session, and met with senior staff.
Mrs Charlie Rombach, the teacher who organised the event, said
"We want to highlight British values with democracy and the right to vote to be key to this week." She is hoping to follow up the visit with a trip to parliament for the school’s elected council later in the academic year.
Mary said,
“It was wonderful to talk to the students and hear their enthusiasm for democracy, volunteering to improve their school services and making their voices heard. These young people are the voters of the future, and it is great that they understand the importance of elections and want to contribute to their school community. It would be a pleasure to see them again in Parliament soon… and maybe even one of them as an MP!”
