Young care leavers express themselves through Art

The young artists of the Reunification Programme with the exhibition of their work at the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry

Reunification Programme

I visited the Belgrade Theatre to see an exhibition of artworks created by young people who have left care. I met some of the artists and the team helping them as part of the Reunification Programme.

This is an innovative initiative led by Margret Conway Edge supporting young people who have been in care to find and create a new pathway to becoming a family once again.

Being in care can be a traumatic experience. Moving away from family, home and friends can leave young people with a sense of rejection. Encouraging the young people to be creative has enabled them to express their emotions using painting, drawing and the written word.

The next exhibition will be in June/July.

Catch it if you can!
